I have recently purchased a remanufactured dell computer with windows xp sp3 to replace one running xp sp3 that had overheating issues. I am running an older software program (Amiable Technologies FlexiSign Pro 7.5V2) that requires a hasp key on a parallel port. I never had issues with old computer recognizing the hasp key but when I try to use this software on new computer it doesnt recognize the hasp. I think it may be due to the fact that my new computer printer port is configured as ecp instead of lpt port. Is it possible that this could be my problem and can I change the port to older style? Any guidance is greatly appreciated. If the problem really is that the parallel port is in ECP mode, you may be able to change to EPP mode in the BIOS.

Restart the computer and watch very carefully at the beginning of the boot sequence for the message that tells you which key to press to enter the BIOS (change system settings or the like). Then reboot again and press the key while the message is showing. You'll only have a few seconds.
